It's all in the interpretation. And so, yes, of course the powers that be can interpret it differently to you. These shootings aren't getting any prettier - they just encourage those who like guns to buy even more. Something will snap, and that is what concerns the gun advocates. |

The full statement: "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."" People can be said to bear arms if their representatives of law (their well regulated militia) do it for them. Common citizens are not well regulated. It was also written during a time when guns weren't as devastating or widespread. When a man's word was his supposed bond...gentlemen had agreements and stuck to them, that sort of thing....times have changed! An amendment can be amended. But hey have it your way - a nuke is an "armament". If the amendment is set in stone then it means that people can also own nukes, rocket launchers, anything. Is there a limit?? Is there???? Where do you draw the line? Who decides what those restrictions are? You realise that as a police officer you cannot detain someone from carrying a gun...not a black person, a white person, a man setting up his gun on the 32nd floor of a hotel - nope - it's within their "rights" to bear those arms. You mustn't touch anyone just because they have a gun. You shouldn't even ask them the question - just put your gun away officer - they have the "right".... Until they hurt people...and then it's all too late. |

I hate country music and las vegas so i don't think so. Serious tho, never think like that. We can die everyday of everything. There is a bigger chance you die by lightning than in a mass shooting. |

No, the people is not the representatives of law, it's the people. Pretty clear cut to me. "Common citizens?" Yeah, this kind of exposes your imperialistic ideas which was patently rejected by our forefathers a couple of centuries back and I am so glad they did. This argument never makes any sense to me, by your logic the 1st amendment is null and void due to the internet. Plus, this is why it was written the way it was written, to be timeless. If they'd intended it to mean just muskets, they'd have written just muskets. And the next argument will be "but they never could have imagined....," Uh, yeah they could have imagined because there were amazing advances in gun technology in their lifetimes and they were smart enough to know that innovation would continue. To suggest they were smart enough to form a first of it's kind government, but totally ignorant in regards to the ever advancing society and technology is insane. This, I cannot at all disagree with. But I must once again thank God and my forefathers for making it a difficult path for anyone wishing to throw away our bill of rights. False equivalence. I really want to think you aren't telling me how to do my job. I am also trying very hard to believe that you know it isn't this simple and clear cut and that each situation is different. You have an almost baffling habit of oversimplifying things which are rarely simple. |
