I think I've found the problem, you actually think it's this simple.
I think your, US having guns, vs UK with no guns comparisons lead to a simple conclusion - yes!

I don't think the US relinquishing a gun favourable stance is simple at all. The current politicians in power are effectively bought by the gun lobbyists...some will end up in business with the gun companies.

I believe many Americans want greater restrictions (which would be a step in the right direction) but that the republicans are bound by their donors to attempt a move at relaxing existing gun laws...in fact they already started the regression in February...

Trump quietly signed a bill into law rolling back regulation that made it harder for people with mental illnesses to purchase a gun.

What could go wrong?

I think slow progress can be made, but that it's possible over time to ban guns to all but specialised groups and law enforcement. Then it will take years to see death toll improvements. but it can/will happen.

The UK makes it simple.
The US makes it difficult.
