Re: Pictures & Videos From The Mass Shooting at Las Vegas Concert
Yes, yes, "it's so rare" In a country the size of one of our mediocre cities, but it should be considered common in a country that could fit several hundred UKs in it. |

Re: Pictures & Videos From The Mass Shooting at Las Vegas Concert
It's not even rare in a single state. I could fib if you prefer and tell you that you are doing well...but per capita you have a comparatively high murder rate thanks to guns. Deal with mental health - definitely (along with all basic healthcare needs) Deal with education - I'm all for that too. A few achievable and maybe a few not so achievable life goals to keep people reaching for the constructive. Deal with inequality - yep, this tends to grind people down and contributes to violence. I'm all for dealing with it. Deal with police training - We surely don't want to see police behaving as death squads! But FFS deal with the guns. Let trained police officers handle those situations that merit a violent response, but with the expectation that they won't get shot every time....everyone else (the 22%) just simmer down, and over time your prospects will improve. |

That is a subjective sample though (much the same as the goldfish example in an earlier comment). You have a gun club, so of course the people who attend prefer guns....and some of them will be Brits!...we have nutters too you know. Glad we can lend them to you when they want to play pop-pops - thanks |

Re: Pictures & Videos From The Mass Shooting at Las Vegas Concert
This is where you could not be more wrong, I am a second generation Officer, my Dad is still on the job with 47 years in. My Mom is a cop, my two brothers, my cousin..... plus almost all my friends and confidants naturally. EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM support the second amendment whole heartedly for many many reason first and foremost being that it is a natural right and we've all just seen too many good people victimized and we're always minutes away when seconds count. We'd all much rather pick-up a dead criminal than try to figure out who murdered a good citizen. And all the laws you might propose will only affect the good citizens, not the bad people. And the people, like this loser, will still get a hold of all the guns he would need to do evil with because no "firewall" you think you can put up will prevent determined people. So many cops I know support the right to bear arms so ardently, it's very very common for off-duty cops to own entire concealed carry classes and train civilians. By the way, I'm an Advanced Texas Peace Officer certified by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement. |

You seem to be insinuating that those who like shooting in a club are nutters. I’m from the UK and I would most likely own a gun if the law allowed for sport and personal protection. I realise of course it is possible via shotgun licensing and FAC to legally own a fire arm. I have been to a range in the Czech Republic (on a stag do) and it was really enjoyable. |

Tell me, me... (lol). Hypothetical scenario. You finally get out of that liberal bubble hipster enclave, go somewhere and that time comes your fate meets its end. Some wacko hell bent to kill puts a gun to your face. Will you stop and say; whoa whoa there, chap! Put down the bloody gun and grab yourself a knife an do me in the Ole Lee Rigby way. That'll show the dirty gun yapped yanks! |

Re: Pictures & Videos From The Mass Shooting at Las Vegas Concert
Sounds like a Mafioso type of society. Great for movies, but that attitude gets innocent people killed - often by their own hand. (and I suspect you know that....of course it depends which department you serve - homicide is not the same as suicide or accidental death, so maybe you don't). And there you go....."this loser" would not have found it so easy to obtain a gun if guns were not available like candy. He would find it incredibly difficult to get his hands on a gun undetected in the UK....it's possible, but a rarer event and certainly not a cache of arms and ammunition sufficient to make Rambo proud. And as you illustrated, no armed civilian stopped "this loser"...despite the fact that there were armed civilians in the band! (and of course elsewhere). He was stopped by threat of capture...and if he'd not have killed himself he'd have been stopped by you brave folks in the police force. You are paid to take the risks. You take an oath. So, don't burden civilians with the risk of shooting themselves or an innocent, or face potential lawsuits from criminals they shot and their families! (you, as a cop, will know the risks of a well meaning civilian harming someone - it's not always as simple as "yay - I've killed a baddie. I can just move on"). Your life as a cop would be a darned sight less stressful if you knew there were not nearly as many guns out there on the streets - don't tell me otherwise. Just a note though: I appreciate the police very much. It's not just a job - it's a lifetime service often in dangerous environments, without a guarantee of gratitude at the time. I'm extremely glad we have our police in the UK, and more-so that they're only required to train and arm a few specialists. |
