Re: Pictures From The NKVD Prisoner Massacres (1941)

Yes, and that both are considered targeted genocide, or ethnic cleansing.

However, what distinguished the NKVD from other secret police-state terror organizations like those of the Nazis, Pol Pot, North Koreans or the PRC (China), was that the Soviets seemed to really focus more on inflicting mass torture, mutilations and general hysterical terror than the others. Their state repression was particularly bloody, painful and ruthless.

These prison massacres also took place in the years after the Holodomor occurred, in which millions of Soviet citizens were starved in a mass planned famine in order to break down their nationalistic tendencies and general hesitancy to communist ideas.

The Ukrainians and Poles knew from the mass repressions, shootings and communist engineered famine who their torturers were; so when the Germans invaded in the days after June 22, 1941, the locals found out what the NKVD did to their family members and went on mass killing sprees to take their revenge.

What followed was 4 years of mass genocide in which 27 million Russians and 7 million Germans were killed.
it's always so fascinating to learn about other genocides that have occurred throughout history, because in america, you only ever hear about the holocaust of WWII.
they dont talk or teach or inform people about what happened to the NKVD, or about the Armenia genocide or the Great Leap Forward or the Rwandan genocide or about any of the other significant massacres, past or ongoing.
people are forced to educate themselves if they feel so inclined. which not a lot of people are.
thank you for sharing this. (:

it’s also very interesting to see how these genocides often continued to take place without anyone knowing or reporting anything much about it.

For just one example:

NKVD special camp Nr. 2 was an NKVD special camp located at the site of the former Nazi Buchenwald concentration camp.

Between 1945 and February 10, 1950, the camp was administered by the Soviet Union and served as Special Camp No. 2 of the NKVD. It was part of a "special camps" network operating since 1945, formally integrated into the Gulag concentration camp system in 1948. Another infamous "special camp" in Soviet occupied Germany was NKVD special camp Nr. 7 at the former Sachsenhausen concentration camp.

is this a topic you're particularly passionate about, or just a historical event that you happen to be rather knowledgable of?

hmm not really a specific interest in this area.. more of an interest in documenting the reality of all kinds of famous historical events, especially examining common looked-over details; I like piecing together how crazy infamous past events really unfolded.

You'll find my threads all over here on DR cover all kinds of important events covering insane situations from all over the place
