St. Louis Cardinal Oscar Taveras' Death Pictures
Oscar Taveras, a promising young outfielder for the St. Louis Cardinals, tragically died in a car accident on October 26, 2014, in the Dominican Republic. Taveras, aged 22, and his girlfriend, Edilia Arvelo, who was 18, were both killed when Taveras' car veered off the road in Puerto Plata. Taveras was considered one of the top prospects in Major League Baseball (MLB) at the time of his death. He had made his MLB debut earlier in the 2014 season and was celebrated for his potential to become one of the game's greats. His untimely passing sent shockwaves through the baseball community and was mourned by fans, players, and officials across the league. The cause of the accident was investigated by Dominican authorities. It was believed that the incident was influenced by wet road conditions and possibly by speeding. The tragedy highlighted the issue of road safety in the Dominican Republic, a country known for having one of the highest traffic-related death rates in the world. Following Taveras' death, the St. Louis Cardinals and the MLB community honored his memory. Contrary to popular belief Oscar Tavares was driving a 2014 red Camaro and not a Ferrari.

Would be groovy to see a police account of the accident, some day. It's too easy to slip into the "overindulged athlete with overpowered car meets douchebag death" thinking. I don't follow MLB, but I do live in Missouri. So I was rooting for an all-MO World Series. I'll reserve opinion until I can see more than the gore. |
