Those were sterile sheets (sometimes soaked with water) that she was wrapped in, typically used to alleviate the pain of third-degree burn victims, so they knew she was still alive. What surprised me was the way she jumped up like that since her brain was already pretty much damaged to the point where she'd soon be comatose.

I just read that she's actually still on life support until her organs are harvested. Can anyone verify?

On August 11, the representative said that Heche was not expected to survive due to an anoxic brain injury, and that she was being kept on life support to determine if her organs are viable for donation, in accordance with her expressed wish to be an organ donor. Heche succumbed to her injuries the next day, and was declared dead per California law on August 12. The family's rep confirms to PEOPLE that, while Heche is legally dead according to California law.

Her family says that her heart is still beating and she has not been taken off life support in order to allow OneLegacy Foundation enough time to find recipients who will be a match.

A family member tells TMZ ... "We have lost a bright light, a kind and most joyful soul, a loving mother, and a loyal friend.
