Re: Paul Walker Death Picture

Probably wasn't a 100 mph crash. I hate to cite the comments section on a site like TMZ, but there was a physicist there expounding upon things like the reaction of carbon fibers against linear forces as opposed to lateral forces and fuel tank positioning in that particular model of Porsche. His take on it -- which has, to a point, jibed with early official accounts -- is that the Porsche was going about 40 to 45 mph when it hit a light pole at just the right angle to sheer off the carbon fiber ribs securing the engine and cause them to puncture the gas tank within close proximity to the vehicle's exhaust. His take on it is that Walker and Rodas were essentially doused in gas and set alight within a matter of milliseconds following the impact, after which point the Porsche came to rest against the tree in the shot. He also theorizes that had the impact been at 100mph, the Porsche would have been sheared completely in two, cut through our around the smaller trees and gone so far as to impact the building in the background.

I'm not exactly a physics buff -- farthest thing from it -- but the guy offers a pretty detailed and persuasive explanation for a keyboard quarterback. He also says that even though there may have been no screams actually heard, it's still possible that they were conscious and unable to make much noise due to massive and sudden searing of the lungs. Plus there's also the fact that Walker's and Rodas' "friends" weren't immediately on the scene because the crash happened a good ways down the road from the event they were attending -- not so far away that the impact went unheard or the flames unseen, but still far enough away to put some appreciable time between the impact/blaze and the arrival of witnesses and first responders to the immediate scene itself.

So there ya go, I guess. Food for thought.

Re: Paul Walker Death Picture

In other words, according to that scenario, it wasn't speed that did them in; it was fire.

I can see a lot of believers in Karma calling this whole thing just that: I remember when the first "Fast & Furious" came out, and the spike in copycat morons who suddenly thought a bright ugly paintjob, a lawnmower muffler, and an eyesore spoiler meant that they were slick little underground street racers. One can only imagine the number of accidents, injuries, and deaths that resulted from countless incidences of "monkey see, monkey do."

Re: Paul Walker Death Picture

Yeah, I've been questioning the "friend's" statement that said that they tried to get the seat belts loose. The one video from the camera phone shows that the cars passenger compartment was engulfed way before the crew from the shop show up, as seen in the security cam video. Plus as stated previously the passenger side was practically wrapped around the tree. I'm sure they tried but I think they also embellished to make it seem like they did more. It's still sad that they died.

People have to have some personal responsibility. Blaming video games and movies for people doing dumb shit is a cop out. I have a lot of faith in the morons of the world, they are stupid and will find a way to do stupid shit no matter what.

Oh, I'm not blaming the actions of asshole wannabe street racers on the "F&F" movies any more than I would blame the Manson Murders on The Beatles' "Helter Skelter" album (which is to say, not at all). Sole responsibility lies with the do-er of the deed, but the chain of inspiration is present in both examples despite the the absence of direct linear causation.

That's why I used the phrase "those that believe in Karma," since I imagine that such a philosophy would equate inspiration with culpability and thus blame. Kind of like that scene in "Dogma" where Loki executes all the Moobi executives for inspiring a form of idol worship.

Re: Paul Walker Death Picture

http://www.cnn.com/2013/12/03/showbi...html?hpt=hp_t2

There were 60 seconds between the impact and when the flames broke out.

http://www.nydailynews.com/autos/pau...icle-1.1536200

"The fuel tank was centrally located, in a special aluminum drawer in the chassis located between the passenger compartment and the rear engine bay. This central location is used in many racecars, since it helps shield the tank from severe frontal or rear impacts."

Guess it doesn't help much when it's the passenger side that slams into something :/

Ah. I was speculating about the milliseconds thing based on the comments I cited. Thanks for the clarification.

So essentially, it was mere inches behind Walker and Rodas. I guess that didn't help much either.

Related note: something tells me this "tragedy" is going to bring a lot of new users to DR.
