So this is one of the few photos on instagram that had the Bataclan tagged in the location from the night of the attacks and was one of the few that wasn't just a photo of the sign in front. Right when my husband and I saw the news unfolding I did a search on my phone and was right away intrigued because you knew that this couple was inside of the venue when the attack happened. He started with only a few followers and now has upwards of 7000 and an overwhelming amount of comments asking if he was ok and showing support. It was confirmed early on that the girl in the photo made it out safely and unharmed.

No one had been able to determine his fate or whereabouts until about an hour ago when a family friend confirmed that he had indeed passed away. I didn't know this person, none of the thousands of people showing support knew him either, but this one photo made countless strangers feel genuine concern for someone they didn't even know existed. Maybe we all cared because he gave all the victims a face before any of their info was released, or maybe because we've all been him at one point or another, expecting to enjoy a concert with friends with no fear that our life could end so violently without warning.

His name was Gilles Leclerc. May he and the others rest easy.
