Cheslie Kryst, the titleholder of Miss USA 2019 and a prominent television correspondent, tragically passed away on January 30, 2022. The incident occurred at The Orion, a high-rise building in Midtown Manhattan, where Kryst lived. She was last observed on the building's 29th floor. The next day, the coroner officially ruled her death a suicide. In a poignant statement, Kryst's mother, April Simpkins, disclosed that her daughter had been coping with high-functioning depression.

Before her death, she left a message on social media with the text "May this day bring you rest and peace." In addition, in her farewell note, she asked to "transfer all the property to her mother."
