In one of the most devastating mass shootings in American history, 23 people were killed and 20 more wounded at Luby's Cafeteria in Killeen, Texas, on October 16, 1991. The perpetrator, George Hennard, executed the attack with calculated brutality, driving his pickup truck through the front window of the busy restaurant during lunch hour before opening fire on unsuspecting patrons.

Hennard, an unemployed merchant seaman, was armed with two semi-automatic pistols as he methodically moved through the cafeteria, targeting individuals at close range. Eyewitness accounts describe a scene of chaos and terror as people sought cover or attempted to flee the carnage. The rampage lasted approximately 15 minutes before Hennard took his own life following a brief shootout with police.

The Luby's massacre, as it came to be known, shook the nation and sparked intense debates on gun control and public safety. Prior to this, the United States had witnessed mass shootings, but the scale and suddenness of the Killeen attack brought a new level of awareness to the issue of gun violence.

In the aftermath, the incident had a profound impact on Texas legislation. It became a catalyst for change in the state's gun laws, particularly concerning the right to carry concealed firearms. Many argued that armed citizens could have potentially stopped Hennard, leading to a significant push for legal changes. In 1995, Texas passed a law allowing for the issuance of concealed handgun licenses, partially influenced by the Luby's tragedy.

The real fucked part is that when he first crashed into the building, customers ran over to help him thinking it was an accident. He started shooting at the very people that tried to help, cold hearted shit.

Thanks! Apparently there was a crime scene walkthrough tape that was taken, I tried to find it and post it here, but it ended up being lost at some point.

I met one of the survivors, Susanna Gratia, who was there with her parents, who were shot in front of her. She escaped out a broken window when the shooter switched magazines. She had a pistol in her purse before entering, but in accordance with the law at the time, she removed it and placed it in her cars glovebox before entering the restaurant. Met her testifying at my states capital on concealed carry, which passed a few years later. Her name is now Susanna Gratia-Hupp, I believe.
