Re: Luby's Shooting Crime Scene Photos & Gunman's Body

IIRC, Luby's prominently declared themselves a "guns welcome" restaurant in the wake of this. This incident had a major effect on the right to carry movement in Texas.

Re: Luby's Shooting Crime Scene Photos & Gunman's Body

This is astounding from an Aussies point of view.
America in 1991: "There's been a massacre. Let's give people licenses to carry concealed forearms!"
Australia in 1996: "There's been a massacre. Yeet all the semi automatic guns from people. People may have very strict licenses and jump through flaming hoops to get them."

No one has shot up a school here. There have been some 'massacres' but are usually done by arson, someone drove a car down a mall, or someone taking out their family. There have been a total of 12 since 1996.
ONE of them was with a prohibited shotgun (as old as 1997). His total? 4.

Culture is SO different, even across western countries. Pretty sure beat cops in the UK don't even carry guns

The US constitutional guarantee of an armed citizenry is to ensure national security from internal (fascist gov) or external forces. History and current events prove over and over again that the armed forces run havoc over the unarmed citizenry. That will not be possible in the US as long as our constitution stands.

The active shooter attack trends are rooted in mental and social disease with no easy fix. It would be foolhardy to forego our national security to try to fix this problem. Active shooting is a convenient method for mass murder, but take away the guns, and history shows that sick and enterprising humans use other methods: Bombs, poisons, vehicles in ped zones, serial killing, etc.

So TX was a pioneer in "pointing at the corpse" pics. I was not aware of that.

Well said! One of the reasons we in the US have a problem with mass shootings is the MEDIA. Seldom do you see the home owner who kills an intruder in their home, or the shop owner who kills an armed robber, or the customers in restaurants and other gathering places, pull their firearms and take out the trash who is pointing their guns at people. They need to stop glorifying these killings and start telling the story of the LIVES SAVED BECAUSE OF ARMED CITIZENS. You cannot predict what someone is going to do, but by having protection in these places you can limit the damage and soon these fuckers will stop doing it because they don't want to get shot!!!

Incredible find, pics of the inside are near impossible to find other than the truck and I never saw the perps body before.

Re: Luby's Shooting Crime Scene Photos & Gunman's Body

I met one of the survivors, Susanna Gratia, who was there with her parents, who were shot in front of her. She escaped out a broken window when the shooter switched magazines. She had a pistol in her purse before entering, but in accordance with the law at the time, she removed it and placed it in her cars glovebox before entering the restaurant. Met her testifying at my states capital on concealed carry, which passed a few years later. Her name is now Susanna Gratia-Hupp, I believe.
I remember reading about her story in the amazing non-fiction book "The Gift of Fear" by Gavin de Becker.

Re: Luby's Shooting Crime Scene Photos & Gunman's Body

My grandmother was going to bring me there for lunch on that day, but I was delayed because I wanted to finish painting a Church sign.
If not for the Church sign, we would have been there.
