All of the dead in this incident died as a result of being trampled to death as everyone in the club ran for the ONLY exit and also smoke inhalation.

One of the owners of the club is reported to have confirmed that they were in the process of renewing its license to operate, and that its fire safety certificate had expired last year.

Everyone is talking about this in RI because it's gonna be ten years since our nightclub fire next month. We lost a great Heavy Metal DJ from our local rock station in 2003 so this Brazil fire brings up sad memories for me.

I want to ask the people responsible regarding why they thought using pyro-technics, fire if you want to be technical, in an en-closed space full of people.

The air system would provide the fire with all the oxygen it needed, plenty of fuel around and its not exactly roomy is it?

I've been in big nightclubs, they're difficult to get out of under normal circumstances so god help you if you dont know where the fire exits are and smoke is coming down on you.

I guess people that own / run clubs and provide the entertainment aren't rocket scientists. You would think there would be laws against flares / fireworks indoors after the last few nightclub catastrophes. There is no need to light fireworks indoors in crowds of people.

A STUDENT who died in the Brazilian nightclub inferno posted a message on Facebook pleading for help, it emerged today.

Tragic Michele Cardoso, 20, was in Santa Maria’s Kiss nightclub before the blaze – started by an indoor firework show – left at least 231 people dead and 106 injured.

The pretty medical student had been at the party with her sister Clarissa and boyfriend Joao Paulo, who both perished in the fire too.

At 3.20am, 50 minutes after the fire reportedly started, Michele used her phone to post a message on Facebook, reading, “Fire at KISS help.”

Over the following hours, alarmed friends left increasingly desperate replies asking if she was all right but their posts went unanswered.

After Michele was confirmed among the dead, one friend wrote on her page, “I never imagined that it was serious when I first saw her asking for help on Facebook in the early hours, until I woke up with a message from my mum telling me what had happened.”

Meanwhile, it emerged today that most of the victims of Sunday morning’s tragedy died in the club’s bathrooms.

Some reports claimed desperate revellers had mistaken the toilet signs for those of the emergency exit.

Santa Maria’s military police chief Edi Garcia said he had taken more than 180 bodies from inside the toilets.

He said, “The scene was terrible, so said to see. There were so many young people and the space was very small.

“I took more than 180 people from the restrooms. They had run there trying to escape.

“The truck which was taking the bodies away had to come back five times to be filled up again. The scene was so sad.”

Brazilian police have arrested three people in connection with the fire on Sunday.

Cops are questioning an owner of the Kiss nightclub, a member of the band Gurizada Fandangueira and its security chief.
