He was not dead at the scene. The ambulance that took him was also hit by a car. Had the paramedics but a brace around his neck he probably would have lived but the neck injury and the other wreck pretty much took him out. I guess when it is your time to go...

I also read the intersection where he wrecked was notorious for having accidents including ‘both’ the accidents he was in there. I hope they finally put up a traffic light.

That's not his head at all. It's a piece of the wreckage that just happens to appear to be a face.

After they already have his body on the stretcher, that piece is still sitting on the ground and in another photo, the piece has been moved, but it's still in the vicinity.

I know this is an old thread but if it wasnt noted, the man pictured is Deans mechanic friend Rudolf Karl Wütherich. and from this picture he is turning his head talking to his rescuers. He died in 1981 in another car crash.

The photo supposedly showing Dean's face is completely fake. I mean look at the photo, his face is clear, visible, he seems to be awake & looking right at the camera. In reality his face was horribly destroyed in the crash. Kinda shocked to see so many people on here think seeing such a blatant photoshop job is real. You people scare me.
