Most likely. Especially in North America, and a lot of state officials are pretty mum about any connections, the word serial killer causes a lot of panic. All I care about is if there are non high risk victims in certain areas I feel the public in that area must be notified.

We've only had about two dozen serial killers in all of Australias history, but some of the more well known ones are:
1. Ivan Milat, known as the Backpacker Murderer. Seven known victims, he tortured, shot & stabbed his victims, and left their bodies in the Belangalo State Forest.
2. David & Catherine Birnie, known as the Moorhouse Murders. The 4 victims were raped, tortured and strangled, then buried in various places.
3. John Bunting, Robert Wagner, & James Vlassakis, known simply as Snowtown, the country town where some of their victims were found. These 3 chose their 12 victims as alleged paedophiles, although it appears they were mostly thrill kills. They were tortured, beaten, and shot or strangled. Eight of the victims were discovered in plastic barrels in a disused bank in Snowtown.
4. John Wayne Glover, known as the Granny Killer. Killed 6 victims, the last one while the police had him under surveillance. After many hours without him coming out of the house of his victim, they broke in and discovered the victim dead, and Glover attempting suicide.
5. Christopher Worrell & James Miller, known as the Truro Murders. Seven known victims, raped and strangled by Worrell, the murders were escalating at a rapid rate, until Worrell was killed in a car accident. The murders were only discovered when Miller confided in a friend who went to the police.
