Eric Garner Dies After NYPD Cop Puts Him in a Chokehold
The death of Eric Garner, an African American man, occurred on July 17, 2014, during an encounter with officers of the New York City Police Department (NYPD) in Staten Island, New York. Garner's death, particularly the manner in which it occurred, sparked widespread protests and became a pivotal moment in the national conversation about police use of force and racial injustice in the United States. Garner, who was 43 years old at the time, was approached by NYPD officers on suspicion of selling loose, untaxed cigarettes. During the encounter, Officer Daniel Pantaleo attempted to arrest Garner, who verbally expressed that he was not resisting arrest but wished to be left alone. Pantaleo then placed Garner in a chokehold, a maneuver banned by NYPD regulations, as other officers assisted in restraining him. Garner repeatedly stated "I can't breathe" as he was held down on the ground. These words, captured on video by a bystander, became a rallying cry for protests and calls for police reform. Despite the clear distress shown in the video, medical assistance was delayed in arriving. Garner lost consciousness and was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital approximately an hour later. The New York City Medical Examiner's Office ruled Garner's death a homicide, citing the chokehold and the compression of his chest during restraint by police as contributing factors. However, a grand jury decided not to indict Pantaleo, leading to further public outcry and demonstrations. |

That's sad, he didn't really resist enough to justify that kind of response from the police |

Re: Eric Garner Dies After NYPD Cop Puts Him in a Chokehold
look, at the end of the day if you got nothing to hide then simply cooperate with the police. Oh all he did was break up a fight hey! well what do we actually know about what really happened people besides the commentary and hear say. unless you have worked directly in a hostile environment, dealing with violence and criminals every day and you could resolve every scenario perfectly with text book precision then dont be so judgemental on the very people who uphold the laws that govern your civil liberties in life. unfortunately shit happens people & without those brave members who work in law enforcement to protect us all from anarchy. their would be a lot more deaths a violence within our mainstream society. so get of your fucking pedestals and stop looking to point the pathetic figure of blame. Maybe if he wasn't waving his arms around aggressively he might not have been restrained (Looked quite threatening to me) or maybe if he wasn't overweight he might not have had so much trouble breathing..... See there is a few variables that can shift the accountability back on to the al-edged victim.! so stop being so pathetic always looking to blame the police.

Being overweight has nothing to do with automatically being asthmatic. If you have someone in a choke hold with others helping you and the guy says he can't breath you loosen up. This was over the top. |

Re: Eric Garner Dies After NYPD Cop Puts Him in a Chokehold
Now this just goes to prove my piont Paul1985! the definition of Murdered: to kill (someone) unlawfully and with premeditation. Now does it look like those cops planned to kill that guy? premeditation: the action of planning something (especially a crime) beforehand; intent. So using the terminology (Murdered) to describe this scenario would be very inaccurate analysis. Thank god we dont have people like you as magistrates.. Because then some real poor judgements would be made. You cant even accurately describe this scenario in the comfort of your computer desk. so how would you assess and judge a situation under pressure like the police have to do? |

What a sad situation. The US police have been in the news a lot lately for the wrong reasons, shooting someone who resisted arrest and killing him, punching a woman, now this.
