Re: Death Pictures From Victims of the RMS Titanic

I love Titanic history, the underwater grave pics are amazing. The bones probably didn't even last five years under that pressure, and with the high mineral content of the sea. I watched a documentary the other day about the Mackey Bennet; the ship who went out to gather all the floaters. They found John Jacob Astor, but his face had been crushed by a funnel and was nearly unrecognised... Other ships were reported running into floating titanic victims through summer, and one was recorded as saying when they hit one of the floaters the body flied up in the air like a ragdoll...gruesome.

Re: Death Pictures From Victims of the RMS Titanic

We have the graves of the dead here in halifax....
I've been to Prince Edward Island and we stopped over in Halifax upon arrival. We saw the cemetery and relics in the museum. It was a very sobering moment and an emotional impact I'll never forget

Re: Death Pictures From Victims of the RMS Titanic

I never noticed that before!! WHAT is he doing????
Believe it or not, that's a funeral director doing an Embalming of the body on the deck. If you look you can see a coffin on the left-hand side of the picture. First-class passengers were actually embalmed and transported back to port in order to be shipped away for their funerals. Some second class passengers would probably also have this but third class passengers would've been buried at sea .

As for the crewman Who is holding the blanket up exposing bodies and giving a small smile I wonder if this is one of the only pictures he had ever posed for and that's what accounts for the smile.… either that or he was a psychotic ass.

Re: Death Pictures From Victims of the RMS Titanic

Great old pics. Except some of these photos are of other accidents like the Eastland Disaster in Chicago (1915) mixed in with the General Slocum Tragedy in NYC (1904). Poor bastards either way.
