Otis Redding, arguably the best Blues singer ever, died in a plane crash December 10, 1967. The plane crashed into Lake Monoa in Wisconsin, 3 miles short of the airport. 7 of the 8 passengers and crew died.

Ben Cauley (pictured in the red hat) survived.
The bodies were recovered the following day after the lake bed was searched. Another member of the Bar-Kays survived the incident by luck. The plane seated 8 and it was his turn to fly commercial.

The cause of the crash is officially listed as Undetermined. The weather was horrible that day and the pilot had been told not to fly.
A gray attache case that Redding always carried was recovered and then disappeared. It reportedly contained cash.

Ditto to whoever posted about the condition of his body, it's the best I've ever seen anyone look who died in a plane crash.

His autopsy report states he was still alive for around 10 minutes after the crash, and froze to death in the water.
