Re: Death & Crime Scene Pictures From The Sylvia Likens Case
It wasn't burned into her-it was scratched in with a paper clip or something similar. And the "3" that was burned into her was supposed to be an "S". Gertrude and the kids used a "C" shaped object but when they went to brand her with it, they did it backwards so it came out as a "3" instead. The shortened story is, her parents worked for the carnival where they traveled a lot, so they were boarding Sylvia & her sister Jenny (who was polio-stricken) at the Baniszewski's, where she was tortured for months by the mother, her children, and some neighborhood kids. They made her put pop bottles inside her, burned her with cigarettes, kicked her, punched her, tied her up for days on end, starved her, etc, until her death. Basically a sadistic old cunt who beat on the teenager because of her jealousy towards her. |

her sister jennie died at 54 recently or a few years ago. i don't know about her other siblings. people have always talked about why didn't they do anything. her sister diane went there but was sent away. they probably all live(d) with so much guilt. also, today all of the kids who were involved would surely be charged as adults. their defense and the law has changed a lot.

Re: Death & Crime Scene Pictures From The Sylvia Likens Case
there are a few stories like this. i have watched both movies. don't even touch the surface and both are not entirely accurate, although Ellen Page's version is the better. they just portray Gertrude's daughter like a saviour, which she is not. there is another infamous case and story called Aurore which is a true story that happened in Quebec. OH MY GOD - it is so sickening as well. knowing what her step mother did to other children. the trial, transcripts and again movies are out there - i was almost going to make a separate thread on it. it is absolutely horrific. this was in late 1800s and the marks on this girl you would not believe. |

yes. johnny who is now 60 ish had become a lay minister and spoke out against abuse - he was the youngest to ever serve time in a juvenille detention centre at the time. after Ricky (one who helped in the branding) served some time and then died of lung cancer as a young man. Stephanie, is a teacher. Paula, i am not sure. they are mostly around though. the movie An American Crime is on youtube and i have a link to the other also, like i said to the Shadowkeeper, to another one called Aurore |

Re: Death & Crime Scene Pictures From The Sylvia Likens Case
I drove by the house when i got off work this evening. They did tear it down and it is just a vacant lot now.In this neighborhood and seeing the mentality of the people when i moved in, i'm not surprised. Before you get to where her hpouse was there is a new gas station and they had a jar in their for donations for a dying babie's funeral expense. It has been stolen two times. A few blocks further west is lasalle street where three men were found bound and their throats cut several years ago.aand a few miles west is where the family of 7 was murdered and the killers are on trial right now. After this it makes the indy 500 and the nascar 4000 pretty boring. lol |
