Re: My Experience with Sleep Paralysis - INCREDIBLE Experience

I've had numerous occasions such as this. I will usually get them once or twice a month. Im aware of my surroundings (like what's on TV, if anyone is around me, etc etc), if anyone is around me I try to touch them or talk for them to wake me up. I'm not 100% sure if I am even really moving, but I do know that I am able to move my eyes, as I can see everything in front of me.

Most of the time SP will happen right as I'm falling asleep. I get this ringing sensation in my ear and I can snap out of it, only for it to happen again as I'm falling asleep. During those times if I'm able to I get up and read a magazine or something for like 5 minutes, and it seems to go away. The times when I am caught in SP are when I've already fallen asleep and "wake up" in the middle of it.

Also on every occasion, I feel like something or someone is getting closer to me or coming after me, like they've found me. I have this feeling that if I don't snap out of it, the thing or person will show up. It could be from the fact that I feel helpless and at the mercy of anything that may happen at that moment, but still it is a scary feeling. One day I may have the guts to let things be, just to see if anyone shows up.

I just got an idea. Next time I am able to sense something like this to occur, I would love to video tape myself to see if I actually am able to move, or just to see that my eyes are really open and aware of my surroundings...and maybe stay in SP and tape whatever it is that has found me.
Man, that would be a great idea to record yourself in this kind of state, I would love to see that. It's cool that you experience this kind of thing on such a regular basis that you would be able to pull it off. What an opportunity that would be, I would love it if I could do that.

Didn't hear a whole lot, just the voices of paramedics and it was quite distant.

Re: My Experience with Sleep Paralysis - INCREDIBLE Experience

For some reason I can't edit the OP anymore to add this video in. It's a great scientific mini-doc on Sleep Paralysis.

Re: My Experience with Sleep Paralysis - INCREDIBLE Experience

My daughter has narcolepsy and sleep paralysis is a part of the narcolepsy diagnosis. What you described is very similar to the experiences she has described to me. When I try to wake her in the morning. She has a very difficult time waking. She can hear me speaking to her, but she can not move, she is half in wake and half in dream states. This happens to her almost every morning especially if she does not get at least 10 hours of sleep a night. The morning that I do not wake her, where there is no one with her it can be very scary for her in these states.

Re: My Experience with Sleep Paralysis - INCREDIBLE Experience

I, too, have had the experience of being able to open my eyes during a sleep paralysis experience. It doesn't sound like much, but it's horrifying. For awhile, I was severely sleep deprived because EVERY time I began to fall asleep, I would find myself paralyzed. I don't know if you've read anything about lucid dreaming, but for me that was the key. I had to learn to overcome the fear and let go. Good luck with what you're going through, man.
