Lasers Could Replace Spark Plugs in Car Engines
![]() Two or three lasers are focused to ignite fuel in more than one place ![]() Spark plugs only ignite the fuel mixture very near the spark gap Source : http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-13160950 |

Re: Lasers Could Replace Spark Plugs in Car Engines
Interesting theory. From personal experience, I've found the old Splitfire spark plugs and the Bosch Fusions to be a waste to purchase. Electricity seeks the shortest path. So having multiple leads does not create multiple sparks at the same time. It just wastes your dollars in buying them and they can cause problems with the quality of the ignition during the power stroke. A ceramic motor would be a better invention as its ability to control heat more evenly would make it easier to achieve a true stoichiometric ratio which would reduce CO, NOx, and Hydrocarbons to nil. |

I'm a car enthusiast. And I like the idea. Then after they convert to lazer ignition then maybe they will finally decide to eliminate the starter motor and then use this type of plug to start the engine.

Re: Lasers Could Replace Spark Plugs in Car Engines
And how bad will they fowl up? How often will u have to replace them? How expensive are they? Will you need to get a new ignition system? What's the heat range?....
