This file concerns the FBI counterintelligence investigation of FBI agent Robert Hanssen, who was identified in internal records under the codename 'GRAYDAY'. A November 22, 2000 Washington Field Office electronic communication says the office opened a full investigation and forwarded a sensitive report to FBI Headquarters. The report compares GRAYDAY's FBI assignments, access to intelligence material, travel, residence, family circumstances, and familiarity with KGB signal and dead-drop sites against information supplied by a Soviet source. Later administrative records from late 2000 through early 2001 include routing entries, laboratory and National Security communications, a Special Projects Advisory Board reference, and a Baltimore response to a lead.
