In 1975, after press coverage tied Olson to the Rockefeller Commission's inquiry into CIA activities, the FBI reviewed headquarters and New York office records for evidence that New York police had reported the death to FBI agent George Dalen. The released material includes a July 1975 FBI memorandum, a New York office teletype, and a copy of a July 11, 1975 newspaper article discussing Detective James W. Ward's original investigation and Olson's association with Robert Lashbrook. FBI searches reported no identifiable record of a report being received, and New York advised that the Bureau would not ordinarily have had jurisdiction over the apparent suicide.
