This FBI file concerns the death of Mikhail Lesin, a former Russian political figure, media executive, and adviser to Vladimir Putin. The Washington Field Office opened the matter in April 2016 to assist the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia and Metropolitan Police Department in their homicide investigation. The records state that Lesin was found dead in his room at Washington's Dupont Circle Hotel on November 5, 2015, and that the medical examiner found blunt-force injuries and ruled the manner of death undetermined. Released material includes opening communications, evidence logs, chain-of-custody records, and requests for FBI forensic analysis of more than 300 hours of hotel surveillance video, including authentication and extraction of images from the period before he was found.
