Re: Yukio Mishima - Seppuku & Beheading
Yes, 2nd pic is definitely faked/staged. He was fascinated with gore & self-evisceration almost his entire life, and his 1st erotic feelings were as a small child looking at artwork of one of the saints with multiple arrows piercing his flesh. The imagery obsessed him.

Hari kari how it is spoken. Seppuku is how it is written. At least that is my understanding.

Re: Yukio Mishima - Seppuku & Beheading
Seppuku/"Hara-kiri" is something that's been around since the time of the samurai warriors, as it was part of their honor code. It was initially an act which was, depending on the circumstances, either voluntary (to die with honor, rather than at the hands of the enemy), or as a form of capital punishment. So it was actually around long before this happened (in Japan), but seeing as Mishima was an extremely well-known and famous author around the world, it could have been one of many instances which spread the use of the word throughout the world (along with the general spreading of Japanese culture during/after WWII) |
