Vin Mariani was a powerful and popular wine in the late 1800s. Its popularity was likely due to its high concentration of cocaine. Even Pope Leo XIII loved Vin Mariani. He was a spokesperson for it at one point! If you weren't in the mood for wine, you could always just buy cocaine tablets. Judging from the box(picture 5), they supposedly cured most ailments.
