the crash speeds compared to today would be relatively slow and the height would be fairly low too. More often than not the aviators where actually shot from the ground not by other fliers and where often dead or on the way before they hit the ground and where impaled by the wooden struts and piano wire construction of the plane and finally smacked into the big old engine right in front of them...

Appears to be from WWI. The soldiers appear to be wearing German Empire uniforms.
