No, the dead were never posed to appear alive and eyelids were never painted to look alive. Those are myths.

None of that is true. They never posed the dead to appear alive, and never painted eyelids. A few myths of many. Dead were only photographed lying in repose in a bed or coffin.

Photography was not so expensive the average family couldn't afford them. It was new and there weren't many photographers, add that to high mortality rates, people died before they could have photos taken, so a post mortem photo was better than no photo. Post mortem photos are obvious with decedent lying in repose in a bed or coffin.

You think their skin was crawling? That's ridiculous. That was their loved one, best friend, baby brother, etc. They had a healthier attitude about death and dealt with it far to often. So do you think you would freak out if it your sibling? |
