Re: The Vintage Dead-Victorians
Some of these photos, it seems to me they are still very much alive at the time of the photo. Most are undeniably dead but there are a few where it looks like they were alive and maybe, as is the case with most newborns, are asleep during the photo session. Of course there is no way to really disprove the validity of these photos, but my opinion is some of these are not actual "death" photos.

Re: The Vintage Dead-Victorians
I wonder if all the kids died of disease or accidents. I have heard that the bodies were posed to look alive. These images are always interesting. |

Re: The Vintage Dead-Victorians
Some are rather horrible - nightmare time! Some do not even look dead, and I don't think they are, due to healthy coloring and positioning of the limbs. Still, great photos. And now, think of the way the dead were honored not so long ago and juxtapose that with the current philosophy of quick "closure." It was better then. A little far-out, but more respectful and somehow "nicer." At least until decomposition begins to set in |

Re: The Vintage Dead-Victorians
I'd found an old image of my great grandma and 2 of her siblings. It looks a lot like these and I asked my grandma, she said they were all alive, but then again she isn't always truthful about family shit. There are however, quite a few images around of HER brother's funeral. Nothing like these though. He died at 12 from spinal meningitis
