Re: Vietnam War Trophy Photos
Grim pictures, but you have to put them in context. They are just another facet of the war that America fought. I am interested in military history, and that means ALL the military history, not just the nice parts. The other thing is, you don't know what happened before the pictures were taken. How many of their friends were killed by the dead guys? These types of things did NOT happen on a casual basis. |

Re: Vietnam War Trophy Photos
That's really cool, even as a Military Historian I was unaware Thompsons were used in Vietnam however I was aware that we issued M3's (the Grease Gun) to our popular forces friends and the South in general. But what's kinda funny is that we issued the South's military many different firearms and never issued them the one they really needed, which was the AR15. What I mean by this is Asians in general are smaller, and built smaller than normal Americans if you can use the term American to represent most everyone else. We issued them M1 (the Garand to be specific, I've counted over fifteen weapon systems used by the U.S. Military that started with the designation "M1" lol). Then after we got the AR's in popular use we issued the South our old M14's which didn't help the weight and bulk situation. Oddly enough we seem to have issued our allies every small arm in our stock except what really suited them. I've always found that kinda funny, I wish I still had the photo's of wooden carved one shot bolt action guns the North made. They were carved to look like Tommy guns, or M3's and just about everything in between. Of course it was only superficially and it was made of wood, so it looks hilarious with people holding them trying to look badass....with a wooden single shot bolt action Tommy gun. I'll have to find them photo's because they are hilarious. |
