Well it would be cheaper to just go ahead and kill the killer, except that mistakes have been made in convicting certain people. I consider serial killers to be much like a rabid animal. It's more merciful to put them down. I don't like the idea of torturing anything, and keeping something alive just so it can suffer, human or animal, is disgusting and makes us little better than them. But that's just me, lol.

The criminals are more deterred by the prospect of perpetual isolation from family, friends and freedom than death. Just the idea of being locked in a cell for the rest of their life has been shown to disturb many inmates, and death-row inmates repeatedly stated that they just "want the job done". By killing them, you're ironically sparing them from what you think they deserve (perpetual misery) and that contradicts your barbaric "eye-for-an-eye" philosophy.
