Saint Vincent De Paul
Us wily Irish Catholics can't get enough. I will never forget when my parents sent me to Catholic schools in the seventh grade. I went from fighting most everyone at recess in public schools to staring at the femur bone of some saint from the first century AD in a glass case during religion class. Amazing the things we worship and fortunately I have adopted somewhat of a Buddhist outlook on life and death. Saint Vincent de Paul's body was exhumed multiple times. The pics shown are from the last exhumation in 1960. All bones but still considered "incorruptible". His body was encased in wax and then encased for viewing as an incorruptible saint. Two links are provided for some history and background. I would still rather be cremated and born again in a future life. Wikipedia:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vincent_de_Paul From Http://thepionycatholic.blogspot.com: When his remains were exhumed for the first time in 1712, his body was found intact. This exhumation was done in 1960, only his skeleton was left, the decomposition blamed on an underground flooding. The 1737 exhumation for his canonization already found his body in this state. The photo above was during the removal of the bones for "re-arranging" in time for the saint's 300th death anniversary. His bones are now encased in a wax figure. |
