Re: Raped And Murdered Women
That's why it pisses me off that most states don't take sexual assualt seriously - most don't even count rape as a violent crime |

Re: Raped And Murdered Women
Thats why I didn't press charges. I didn't want to relive the whole nightmare again with the guy sitting right in front of me. If I did he would olny get like 6 month or not even that. The courts are so fucked up. The law really needs to change or at least the sentences need to be harder.

Re: Raped And Murdered Women
"Rape is about power, not sex. A rapist uses actual force or violence — or the threat of it — to take control over another human being. Some rapists use drugs to take away a person's ability to fight back. Rape is a crime, whether the person committing it is a stranger, a date, an acquaintance, or a family member." I know a few women who were raped and though very traumatic, they are still alive. One girlfriend I had would have panic attacks if something or someone reminded her of the rape/rapist. Her rapist was a boyfriend who used rape to control her. He would sodomize her into submission almost daily. Yea, I can have a very sick sense of humor, but that is just me. If you or someone you know has been raped, then support them. If you are just looking at pictures (here or the Internet), then you must be as sick as me. |

Re: Raped And Murdered Women
Unfortunately, the most powerful block that one would expect to persue those changes - women's rights groups - just happen to also be in the part of the political spectrum that thinks that the justice system is here to reform criminals, not punish them (as naive a concept as I can think of), and are thus pretty much paralysed on this issue. It's pretty much in the hands of the more right leaning victims' rights groups that are on the forefront here, but they are disorganised and ill-equipped to fight the massively overpowered ACLU, another organisation that should be fighting for the rights of victims, but isn't. Really, when looking at each state's rape laws, you need to look at their minimum sentencing, not the max - most have a high max (some have life sentences), but a rediculously low min. Another thing to look at is how often prosecuters plea it down to misdemeaners or felonies that aren't sex or violent crimes - that's where no amount of sentencing reform will help, at least until there is better reporting on such statistics to the public (DA's would be far more cautious about plea bargaining if they knew it could cost them the next election). Heavier sentencing for rape and active monitoring after parole is exceedingly important, as rape, like robbery, is an escallating crime - it can easily turn into murder, even if the perp doesn't plan it that way, and once it does... |

Re: Raped And Murdered Women
I think all the guys out there who have raped a woman should get shoot in the. I know if I had my guns back then I would have put one in his head well I would have put two in him you can guess where the other one would go. If you can tell I'm still pissed off he fucking stole my life and I will never be the same. Even though it happend 14 years ago I still won't go any where by myself. That mother fucker put a fear in me that won't go away.

Re: Raped And Murdered Women
And that's something that the sheltered, pampered criminal rights activists will never grasp, until it happens to someone they know - and then they will quickly find that all the academic arguements in the world mean nothing next to the realities of this type of crime.
