Loggers And Their Heavy Load (1890's)

This picture was taken in the 1890's and shows a group of loggers hauling a heavy load. It is hard to even picture how they got the logs stacked that high. It is also hard to imagine how they keep it from tipping over.

Surely those two horses weren't expected to pull that?

Re: Loggers And Their Heavy Load (1890's)

I wonder how the outcome would be if those logs all fell...

Horses were apparently much stronger then...

Actually the runners on the bottom of the sleigh make it slide easier on the snow, plus in the summer, they build a road to use as a skidway during the winter.

Yeah that's got to be at least 50 tons or so. Sled or no.... that will take some serious force to move. And what about hills (Up or Down)

Poor animals, but if you look at what donkeys need to do in India nad countries of the "3rd world", it might not be too bad...

Re: Loggers And Their Heavy Load (1890's)

mules, and unfortunately, they do expect them to pull it. Mules are powerful animals, but hell that is way too overloaded REGARDLESS of the runners.
