Only 27 of the supposed 41 child victims appear in the picture.

The selling of children into a life of servitude was not uncommon in China, as slaves were owned by many wealthy families.

Poor families often looked upon it with a benign fatalism as a child sold into slavery was still better than a child starving to death.

However, quite a few unscrupulous people kidnapped their neighbor's children to fuel this sad economy.

The kidnapping and selling of children (and even adults) continues to be a lucrative business in China, to this day.

Damn it...you mean I could've just had my kids delivered? Shit, I had to go to Russia...twice...in the dead of Winter (which is like 12 months long there). Things were sure easier in the old days.

By the way...slavery was only "officially" outlawed in China in 1910...but still goes on today.

Thank you very much for your kind words, but it's alright. I stupidly brought up the adoption thinking that aspect of it was funny. My fault...please do not blame Icheerthebull, she is what she is and has that mentality and has shown her penchant for lame comments on previous occasions. I should not have shared with a gore site anything personal or anything that might be interpreted as good. This is a gore site and the expectation of it being anything other than a gore was foolish on my part. This is my mistake and I am to blame for bringing up my daughter's adoptions and for any negative statements/insults made by others...I deserve it. We cannot expect others to react differently than Icheerthebull did...after all, this is a gore site. If we can't stand the comments (or subject matter) then we are free to leave...no one's forcing us to stay. So far this week, I've been accused of lying about my personal history, being a pervert/pedophile, and now a kidnapper. After so many years in law enforcement you'd think I'd be immune to criticism and badgering...and to a large degree I am. I am a cartoonist by profession and understood the context of what you where saying, and your post while explaining your intent was not necessary. I deal with criticism daily but in bulls case she painted a whole countries' adoption program and your bit of information with a trumped up BS because she didn't like your humor? She really doesn't like me much...I'm a retired police officer and she's an anti-police anti-American rebel rouser. Oh well...it was a cheap and painfully uninformed/unenlightened shot, but that's what I've learned to expect from her. People say some of the dumbest things about adoption...over the years I've just gotten used to the ignorance...most of the time. I figure if she knows as much about adoption as she knows about American law enforcement, then she's probably close to retarded...so I forgive her for her comments.

Wow a cartoonist...that's pretty cool. I studied art in high school and college...even attended USC's cartoonist and animator program way back in the early eighties (before computers). I always wanted to be a technical illustrator. Unfortunately, I had a run in with your typical jealous joy sucking art teacher (you know the type) and I soured on the profession. One of my friend's sons works for one of the larger animation studios as an illustrator/cartoonist. I know he worked on several kids cartoons. I grew up with a family that worked at the old Hanna-Barberra Studios. I was so stupid...I never asked for any cells. Man do I regret that. Totally cool that you're an artist (and gainfully employed). What type of cartoons? Political, strip, gameing, media, etc.?

I didn't know your girls were from Russia!! My cousin adopted 2 boys from Russia. Both are amazing young men. So AWESOME they, and your girls found loving familues!!

I thought you knew that. Yup...we were real lucky to find such great kids and it was one incredible experience. It's nice to hear that other Russian adoptees have grown up normal. So often you only hear the horror stories...it good to here those boys are doing good and are happy. All my friends and family thought it was pretty funny we chose Russia...my background has always been somewhat anti-Soviet and anti-Bolshevik...it was a giant lep for me. I can't say enough about the people we met...they treated us better than we were treated in the US regarding the adoption process. Going to Russia was an incredible experience and finding my children was something I really can't adequately put into words...as anti-Soviet as I was, I can never thank those wonderful formerly Godless Bolsheviks enough for trusting me to raise these girls as little Capitalists.
