Re: Iron Lungs
Rancho Los Amigos was the original Los Angeles County Poor House when it first started and grew into what it is today. A lot of the facility is abandoned now and unused...it shows up on the Internet lot as a haunted insane asylum...which it never was...stupid kids. It's really the very best rehabilitation hospital anywhere. Last I heard, they were gearing up to get some of the soldiers from the wars. Anyway, I've got a female cousin (well educated civil engineer) by marriage who's all into not vaccinating her three kids. In fact, she's got some oddball thing about them going to the doctor for anything. Her kids are 5, 7, & 9 and none have every been to the doctor...nor have any of them ever had any type of vaccine or even a Tetanus shot. It's beyond me how and educated and intelligent woman (and her equally well educated and intelligent husband) both be so careless and cavalier with regard to their children's health. Because my two girls were adopted from Russia, they were immunized twice for everything...one in Russia and again when they got home. I'm not sure what to think of my cousin...perhaps she's a witch. Not a modern sexy witch...but an odd old fashioned witch of the sixteenth century. |

Re: Iron Lungs
most anti-vaxxers kids will be fine....until they decide they want to visit any truly backwards places like afghanistan or pakistan or anywhere that western medicine has been shunned by the religious nut-jobs who rule those places... we will see a rise in polio in the west in 20 years....those fucking idiots will be sorry then |

Re: Iron Lungs
I heard that in these upper middle class enclaves where the mommy anti-vaccine brigades hide out, the rates of diseases are higher. I've also heard that the anti-vacciners depend on the rest of us to vaccinate our kids so they don't have to. What's the deal with these idiots?

Re: Iron Lungs
As an immunocompromised patient, who cannot have vaccines, I shudder when I think of people who don't want to protect others. Like when people don't care about blowing cigarette smoke in people's faces, except more deadly. Kids suffer when they get the real disease, too.

Re: Iron Lungs
That is mind-boggling. I'm sorry to hear this. It will hurt them, and others. It's sad about the parents, too, that they won't engage in simple internet research. No degrees needed. Infinitesimal chance of bad reaction to vaccine versus high chance of disease? What if they have some glycogen disorder or something? What's the point in living in a "first-world" country, if not to utilize its services. I lived in China, and there was a goddamn dried-up kidney on the floor, and they let some kid a few years younger than I was die at the door after a traffic incident because of lack of money. Have you tried to reason with her? You're well-thought-out |

Re: Iron Lungs
It's interesting, and unrelated, but I studied Judaism as a scholar in Las Vegas, when I was a Boy Scout leader (yes, I'm a girl). Long story. Anyway, while I was studying different types of Judaism, immersed in the culture, with my own cute, pink yarmulke, a rabbi wore this hat on top of his yarmulke, full banana curls, and refused to shake my hang because I possess a vagina. Even congregation services were separated with a wall for women. Right, so he told me that the earth was exactly 5,9xx something years old, exactly down to the ones place. I had to not laugh. I was glad to not have shaken his hand. Didn't wanna catch the stoopid.
