Not about to disagree with you there. A lot of his men might consider him a hero, but I wouldn't doubt it if the general Japanese population viewed his act as incredibly cowardly. I know MacArthur took A LOT of flack when he came to the decision to not prosecute Emperor Hirohito. He said the Japanese needed someone they trusted to help in the rebuilding process. And look how prosperous a nation Japan became over the years. I think he really was a stabilizing force because he was so beloved by the public, and I think that's why Japan was able to recover a lot quicker than the European countries, especially those that fell under USSR rule.

Plus the fact that the USA had quickly realized that Russia was the new enemy and they needed an ally on that side of the Pacific. Japan was in a prime position.

This is also another reason there were nowhere near as many 'war crimes' trials as one would expect in a country that had shed so much blood, in such barbaric ways.

Re: Hideki Tojo

During his captivity through his trial and execution, he was fitted with dentures by U.S. Army doctors. The man who made the dentures inscribed "Remember Pearl Harbor!" on them. This was not found until after Tojo had been executed and someone examined his dental plate.
