I think in this case at least for me I find this image both powerful and disturbing.
It is powerful in the sense that the photographer perfectly captured a moment in time in an individuals life.
He quite literialy places the viewer at the secne of a rape moments after it has happened.
It feels as if you are looking directly in to this poor girls soul.
Now that is what a good photographer should be able to do and was done here.
The disturbing thing is when you realize what it is you are really seeing.
The photographer was able to bridge 60 or 70 years of time and make you and I the viewers witnesses to a womans rape .
For this reason this is both a very powerful image and at the same time very disturbing.
You are right though for some reason this post did stir many of us to comment both positive and negitivly.
Just goes to show how powerful a single image can be and how time never realy heals some wounds.
Good psot though Sharon ya done good.

Thank you so much for the kind & very true words Eaton, I find this image disturbing too and found it odd people reacting strangely to it - just becasue she is perhaps Jewish.

The photographer is probably the target of her angry expression - "How can you take my picture, you low-life!"

You are on my level with this one

Usually the Nazis would, rape, beat young girls and women, then take them out to sea and dump them overboard whilst still alive

Could not have said this better.
It is quite disturbing and you can quite literally see the pain in her eyes.
Nothing is quite as haunting as seeing or experiencing, through picture or not, innocence lost.
