Frontal Lobotomy
Vintage pictures of frontal lobotomies performed on AWAKE patients...Evidently this procedure was done on patients back in the day who exhibited any signs of deviant behavior or mental health issues; without their consent of course.

Re: Frontal Lobotomy
Have a read of 'My Lobotomy': Howard Dully's Journey. He was the boy in these pictures.

Re: Frontal Lobotomy
They had no imaging system. They were poking in blind, and no idea really what they were cutting. Scrambled eggs and hope for the best.

Re: Frontal Lobotomy
"...Evidently this procedure was done on patients back in the day who exhibited any signs of deviant behavior or mental health issues..." So pretty much everyone on this site would be eligible for a free lobotomy?

Re: Frontal Lobotomy
There was one doctor who drove a truck around that looked like an Ice Cream truck and gave out these things the same way. IDK if he had music going on...

Re: Frontal Lobotomy
BTW that second pic is a famous one....
Rosemary Kennedy, the sister of president John F. Kennedy and senator Robert Kennedy, was born mildly retarded. She did not always behave with the class and decorum expected of a Kennedy, and suffered mood swings. Dr. Freeman promised the Kennedy family he could cure her. At age 23, Rosemary was strapped to a table, her head immobilized, and while fully conscious Freeman proceeded to destroy her frontal lobes. He asked her to count and to recite prayers during the procedure and Freeman stopped cutting only after she no longer made any sense. She was "cured" he declared, and in fact, she no longer suffered mood swings. She became little more than a vegetable, unable to speak coherently, or control her bowels, or attend to her most basic needs. She died in a mental institution in 2005.

Re: Frontal Lobotomy
As they used to say "I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than frontal lobotomy"
I suppose a lot of medical procedures started experimentally
