Catherine de’Vigri was born in September 1413 to a wealthy Bolognese family (her father was ambassador to the Duke of Ferrara).

An acclaimed writer, artist and musician as well as a renowned Abbess, Catherine died at the age of 49 and was interred without a coffin. After several purported ‘graveside miracles’ her body was exhumed on the eighteenth day after burial and found to show no signs of deterioration.

For many years her body (seated on a wooden chair) was brought to a window of the enclosed convent in which she died, in order for the faithful to venerate it post mortem. Eventually it was permanently seated within a glass box in order to avoid damage.

Canonised by Pope Clement XI (or Benedict XIII, depending which history you’re reading) in 1712, Catherine sits in her glass case to this day, dressed in her nun’s habit and gazing unseeingly at the manuscript in her lap.

I wonder if her skin is hardened or if its still supple....and if it is how many of them priests have had a little peek and fiddle aherrrm .... down stairs .

I know many on here would not be able to resist a peek at the several hundered year old probably increadably hairy pie!
