Actually, if you look at the shadow angles, and where the sun is on his face, it appears he's squinting. A lot of people make a face similar to his when the sun is attempting to bake your eyeballs out of their sockets. I mean, he's not cuddling the kid, but he's not tossing the poor baby in the air like "LOL"
