Re: Bombing of Dresden 1945

It was necessary for the reasons stated. Germany declared war not the other way round mate - do they teach that in Germany ? as you, my friend are badly misinformed.

Dude I know Adolf Hitler started WW2 but not Adolf Hitler alone - They dnt teach wrong hisory in germany - you confuse the countries here! I´m just saying it was War so yeah ppl get killed but when the Dresden Air Raid happened Germany was already beaten so it was not necessary at all. That is like kicking somebody who´s already down. War wasnt over by that time I know anyway some ppl say the Bombing of Dresden was a war crime - not without a reason. Ugh kinda stupid to fight about that. U have ur opinion I have mine... Even historians fight about it so I´ll give it a rest ... We could also talk about 911 and not have the same opinion... So yeah. That thread wasn´t created for discussions anyway. It was just cuz of the 66th anniversary yesterday....

MaLoSco

Regardless of some of the comments made about it your post and your comments from the viewpoint of someone who had family living in Dresden at the time were very good.
I know they made me think about the war from a diffrent angle than I have in the past and that was a good thing .
we all from time to time need to look at issues from both sides.
As you have seen from some of the comments made above even 66 years later emotions still run high over the war.
The truth is in small ways all of you were correct .
Yes one of the main reasons that Dresden and germany as a whole was bombed was because of the decisions hitler and the NAZI party had made.
As for who elected Hitler I would like to remind you people of something most of you may not know.
On the ballots given to the German people for said election Hitlers name was the only one on the ballot.
There was no oposition canidate to vote for.
So how did Hitler get power very easy he did the same thing dictators have done for years before him .
He took advantage of a nation which was thrown in to poverty.
He fed the hungry and made the trains run on time .
Put people back to work.
Now I ask you what caused Germany to be in this state of poverty?
Easy the treaty of Versiesy the allies terms of surender from ww I.
Adolf Hitler was able to come to power by exploiting the out come of a badly constructed surender to the first world war.
How WW II started and the blame for it can not be laid at the feet of just one man or one counrty.
There were many players both good and bad on both sides.
This created as MaLoSco said earlier a "Eat or be Eaten situation for all involved".
I think the important thing to take away from this is lets learn from the past so that we never have to repeat it.

Re: Bombing of Dresden 1945

Nobody points the finger... and NO you can´t blame Adolf Hitler for ALL this...
That's true. It is 100% the fault of Adolf Hitler, his followers and the German people. It's a shame that Germany brought this upon their own people.

Everybody wants to rule the world. (Sounds like a song. )

During that time period, Japan tried the same thing. Both Germany and Japan failed in their attempts at vainglory with roughly the same fate. Utter destruction.

BTW, almost all of Germany supported Hitler at one time. When he was "delivering the goods". When the war started looking bad for the Nazi's it became harder and harder to find anyone honest enough to admit that they supported Uncle Adolph.

By the time the Allies rolled into Berlin, the vast majority of the population was like, "A Nazi? Me? Oh, no. I never liked Hitler." Of course they were lying.

Germany...today...is a fine country.

The population of young people today and those very young at the time should not be made to feel any shame for the crimes of those that went before them.

All countries make mistakes at different times. Some larger than others. And with the attendant proportional consequences.

Hopefully, the Human Race will learn one day.
