There was one by my house growing up. It was called Byberry Insane Hospital. Google it. The pictures will haunt you. We were so happy when they demolished all of the buildings.

My heart aches for these people. Living with a mental illness is no fun. I can’t imagine what they went through.

I've been to a bunch of places that are claimed to be haunted and I've never seen squat but I have to admit the Trans Allegheny Lunatic Asylum is a creepy place.

There is one room where the inmates would go to get a cigarette. They would only get one. There is a window that a nurse handed a cigarette to a patient. They would stand in line and you can plainly see where the floor is worn where they shuffled up to the window. It's very easy to still see people waiting in line (in your head).

Lobotomies were first done here. The medical area is in pretty bad shape but under certain conditions you can get in. To picture in your head what went on in the room they were done..............

Like I said, I've never see anything in any place but this place does have an odd feeling that nowhere else I've been does.

I worked in an asylum for 6 months before I had to walk out. Some of the staff and even head management would abuse patients (clients) I took a lady to the toilet and overheard through the open window a man high up in management tell a severely aggressive 'patient' to 'go and hit her, hit her HARD.' (Telling patients to attack another patient) This man also 'dropped' a young girl with autism. She had such bad swelling/bruising she couldn't see through her eyelids. I witnessed management take a 'Walker' away from an elderly lady who was on the toilet and put it down the passage (she couldn't reach it cause she couldn't walk without it) and all he did was laugh and laugh. He found it so amusing.

Fuckers that want to torment, hurt and abuse are often found in these environments. Perfect for them to pinch, hit, rape and torture their victims.

Of course I reported him. Nothing was ever done and 15 years later I see his name is now pn their adverts as one of the company Directors. He is a disgusting man.
