Woman Runs Over Boyfriend After He Allegedly Tried to Sexually Assault Girl

A Maine woman allegedly ran over her sex offender boyfriend after catching him trying to sexually assault a 12-year-old girl.

When the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a domestic disturbance in Nobleboro on March 28, deputies discovered that James Oliver, a convicted sex offender, had been struck and run over by a car in the driveway of the residence, authorities said.

An investigation revealed that the vehicle had been driven by Oliver’s girlfriend, 53-year-old Linda Currier, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

According to investigators, a fight had begun between the couple after Currier walked in on Oliver allegedly attempting to sexually assault Currier’s 12-year-old relative at the residence.

“The fight continued outside where Currier allegedly ran over Oliver with a car,” the news release said.

Currier and Oliver had both been drinking at the time, according to deputies.

Oliver, 48, was transported to a hospital for treatment of a serious, but non-life-threatening injury, to his leg, authorities said. Once released, he was booked into the Maine State Prison Infirmary for charges of attempted gross sexual assault, unlawful sexual touching, and failing to comply with the sex offender registration act for not updating his address.

Oliver is scheduled to appear in court on June 8.

Currier was arrested for operating under the influence and aggravated assault. She was released from custody after posting $1,000 bail.

Neither Oliver nor Currier has retained an attorney, according to court officials.

The young girl did not receive any injuries requiring immediate medical attention and was taken from the scene to be cared for by her family, according to the sheriff’s office.
