Woman Freaks Out in Maternity Ward Two Days After Giving Birth New mother 'smoked bath salts in maternity ward two days after giving birth... then punched and kicked staff and rolled around naked on hospital floor A new mother has been charged with smoking the powerful synthetic stimulant known as bath salts two days after she gave birth, while still in the maternity ward of a central Pennsylvania hospital, and violently attacking staff. Carla Murphy, of Altoona, is charged with aggravated assault and various drug counts for allegedly stripping naked and beating staff at the Altoona Regional Hospital on June 17. Hospital police had to be called to subdue the 31-year-old after she stripped, rolled around on the shower floor, and was unable to answer basic questions posed by staff, according to the Altoona Mirror. Pictured: Carla Murphy, of Altoona, posted this picture to Facebook with the caption, 'Tyler Michael 6/15/12 5lbs 3oz'. The incident at Altoona Regional Hospital took place two days after his birth Nurses initially became concerned after Murphy started swearing and acting aggressively, according to court records. They noted that she appeared to be on drugs that were not administered by hospital staff and made the decision to keep her at the ward because she was 'not of sound mind or able to make her own decisions.' But when staff attempted to escort Murphy into her room, she ran into the bathroom and rolled around naked on the shower floor, seemingly unaware of her whereabouts. Police searched the mother's bag after she gave them permission and found evidence of drug use, including white powder Murphy described as 'Disco', which is a brand of bath salts. Charged: Michael W. Stewart, Murphy's live-in boyfriend, pictured with the newborn, has been charged with possession of drug paraphernalia Doctors were forced to give the mother the anti-psychotic drug Haldol after they could not get her to calm down, but she continued to act erratically, yelling at staff and flailing her limbs aggressively. WHAT ARE BATH SALTS? 'Bath salts' are likely to be stimulant drugs such MPDV or ephedrine, which can be inhaled, smoked or digested. 'Bath salts' does not refer to a single chemical, but instead to a range of synthetic drugs that can be sold legally in the U.S. as long as they are not marked for human consumption. Drugs such as MPDV are highly potent stimulants, similar to some amphetamines, which cause a strong compulsion to 'redose'. In high doses, such drugs can cause violent and unpredictable behaviour, and terrifying hallucinations – and the compulsion to take more of the drug continues, even once the 'high' has begun to make the user feel bad. On the street, 'bath salts' are also known as 'Ivory Wave', 'Purple Wave', 'Vanilla Sky', 'Bliss' or 'Blizzard' and are sold in smoke shops as a substitute for LSD or cocaine. Murphy became more and more violent and attempted to run away. When officials tried to get Murphy to return to her room, she proceeded to punch a nurse and kicked a police officer, while attempting to bite him. The scuffle spilled into the hospital's hallway and Murphy showed no signs of relenting. She was eventually handcuffed and arrested but continued to struggle, kicking a nurse who was trying to help her get dressed in the chest. Murphy was restrained until the anti-psychotic took effect and was then taken to Blair County Prison on a probation violation as she already had an outstanding warrant. A Blair County Children, Youth & Families caseworker and Altoona Police visited Murphy's home on June 17 when Michael W. Stewart, her live-in boyfriend, led officers into the room the newborn would be sleeping in. An inspection of the residence uncovered drug paraphernalia including needles, aluminum foil, bath salts containers and a broken glass bottle with brown residue on it, according to the newspaper. Location: Carla Murphy, of Altoona, is charged with aggravated assault and various drug counts for allegedly stripping naked and fighting with staff at the Altoona Regional Hospital, pictured, on June 17 Stewart told how he was aware that Murphy had been addicted to 'Blizzard', the street name for bath salts, or MDPV, but thought that she had kicked the habit. He was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia by Altoona police and faces a preliminary hearing on August 8 alongside Murphy. Online court records do not list an attorney for Murphy who was released from Blair County Prison on Tuesday. *You would think, after one such incident, people may think twice before trying this drug, but, apparently not." Re: Woman Freaks Out in Maternity Ward Two Days After Giving Birth I hadn't heard of them until the zombie killers started coming out. Flaka, they are banned in some states in the US. You know how people are - out to make a buck no matter what the consequences! suthernhunnix - Every thing affects each person differently, even prescription meds. What works for one person kills the next one. Alcohol is legal and how many people die from that? |

Re: Woman Freaks Out in Maternity Ward Two Days After Giving Birth Im so fed up of seeing "bath salts" in every news story. "Bath Salt" are research chemicals, the main one around here is called "bubble" you sniff and it keeps you awake for the night and it can make you trip out a bit. Out of about 20 people i know who take "bath salts" every weekend none of them roll around naked or give people shit, they sit there and trip and laugh all night. That bitch smoked some meth... |
