Woman Bails Man Out of Jail, then He Robs Her

The 69-year-old victim, whose name has not been released, first met Jay Connolly when she volunteered for a Maricopa County Sheriff's Office jail, where he was in custody, CBS 5 reports. Police say the woman helped the 29-year-old inmate pay his bond, and then let him stay at her home in a gated senior community. The woman believed that the two were going to get married, according to My Fox Phoenix. On Thursday night, Connolly and an acquaintance of his, 42-year-old Candy Dean, allegedly overpowered the woman and used shoelaces to tie her up before making off with her cell phone, handgun, purse and car. Officials say it took about two hours for the woman to free herself from the laces. Police located Connolly and Dean at a motel early morning Friday, according to AZ Family. The pair was arrested and booked into jail on charges of kidnapping, aggravated robbery, theft, and theft of means of transportation. |
