An attorney who used to represent escaped inmate Casey White is sharing some insight into White’s personality and time behind bars.

Attorney Dale Bryant handled Casey White’s appeals for the 2015 incident that got him arrested in Limestone County. Bryant said that Casey had the trust of the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office and was made a trustee in the Limestone County Jail.

“Casey suffers from a mental illness,” Bryant said. “... When he’s on medication and in a supervised environment... he’s a decent person. When he gets out of incarceration, he is unable to stay on his medication and he even self medicates by smoking methamphetamine or taking other illegal substances.”

Bryant said that he fears the current situation with Casey White’s disappearance could end badly based on how Casey acted when he was arrested in 2015.

“Casey wanted to die,” Bryant said about Casey’s arrest in 2015. “He was trying to get the officers to shoot him and that is kind of my fear, how this situation is going to end. Except for this time, I’m afraid that Casey may try to shoot them [police officers] to try and get them to shoot him. I want to say in his interview after his arrest and in my conversations with him, he wanted to die that day.”

Bryant said that Casey has even admitted that he cannot function in the real world.

“He can’t function in the real world because he can’t get his medication and he doesn’t do well free,” Bryant said. “That is a little concerning when you talk to someone and they say, ‘I can’t function outside of an incarcerated facility’.”

“Just his size alone,” Bryant added. “I’m 6-foot-3, 220 pounds and he makes me feel small.”

Investigators have reported that Vicky White had phone contact with Casey White while he was at the Donaldson prison. Investigators also confirmed, after being told by inmates at the Lauderdale County Detention Center, that Vicky and Casey had a “special relationship”.

Lauderdale County Sheriff Rick Singleton said this relationship wasn’t physical and Vicky made sure that Casey had enough food and other items.

However, Bryant said that Casey never spoke about the former corrections officer.

“When someone asked me before, I was not shocked that he escaped,” Bryant said. “I was shocked by who he escaped with. I had never heard of her before.”

Bryant said that Casey hated Donaldson prison and wanted Bryant to have him transferred to Lauderdale County.

“Casey told me several times that he hated being in Donaldson prison,” Bryant said. “... He just wanted out of Donaldson prison. I’m not saying he didn’t commit the murder of Ms. [Connie] Ridgeway, but I’m saying the reason he confessed to the murder was to get out of Donaldson prison.”

Investigators revealed that Vicky and Casey may have been planning this escape for over a year. However, Bryant said that he was shocked by the sophistication of the escape because it doesn’t seem like something Casey could do.

U.S. Marshals have released new images of what missing corrections officer Vicky White may look like if she altered her image.

U.S. Marshals continue to look for the two and say that Vicky White may have dyed her hair to a darker shade. These images show what she may look like now with darker hair, styled in short and long lengths.

The Williamson County, Tennessee, Sheriff's Office contacted US Marshals on May 5 and told them the car had been located and towed on April 29, just hours after inmate Casey White and corrections officer Vicky White had left the jail in Florence, Alabama.

The vehicle, an orange 2007 Ford Edge, was found in a "sparsely populated" area not far from Interstate 65, about two hours north of Florence, Alabama, where the fugitive investigation began.

The tow company did not realize it had the same vehicle in their lot the inmate and corrections officer used to escape, until May 5.

"They found the car before we even knew they were gone," Singleton said. "There’s no fault or blame on anyone."

The pair were on foot when they lost their vehicle, but it’s still not known if they stole another vehicle or if they hitched a ride.

"Obviously they could have walked or someone could have picked them up," the sheriff said.

Singleton said there was nothing found inside the abandoned vehicle besides Vicky White's jail keys, handcuffs, and radio. Investigators also noted a "botched" attempt to spray paint the car.

CNN) Former Alabama corrections officer Vicky White has died from injuries after she and escaped inmate Casey White were arrested in Indiana earlier Monday, Sheriff Dave Wedding of Vanderburgh County told CNN.

She was hospitalized earlier with self-inflicted gunshot wounds after being taken into custody following a car chase in Evansville, Indiana, US Marshals previously told CNN. Her wounds were "very serious," Wedding said at the time.

No law enforcement officers fired shots, according to Sheriff Rick Singleton of Lauderdale County, Alabama, where the pair -- who are not related -- fled on April 29.


Before the chase ensued, officers conducting surveillance spotted Vicky White exiting a hotel with a wig on, according to US Marshal Matt Keely. Then, she and Casey White got into a car and drove away.

Authorities continued to watch them until a vehicle pursuit began, ending when a US Marshals task force member drove a vehicle into the Cadillac the pair were in. The car wrecked and rolled over, he said. Casey White was driving the car, according to the US Marshals, though Wedding had earlier told reporters Vicky White was the driver.

Officers were able to remove the inmate from the wrecked car, but Vicky White was pinned inside with a gunshot wound to her head, Keely said.

Casey White reportedly told officers to help "his wife" who had shot herself in the head, according to Keely, and told them he didn't do it. Keely said to their knowledge Casey White and Vicky White are not married.

The pair's capture brought to a close an 11-day manhunt that gained widespread national attention and saw hundreds of tips flood in from all corners of the country, including one that ultimately lead to the location and arrest of the fugitives.

That tip came Sunday night, Singleton said.

Wedding said the duo were believed to have been in Evansville since May 3. "It's hard to believe they've been here that many days, but we're lucky that we stumbled upon them today," he said.

Singleton said Casey White, 38, will be brought back to Alabama. The inmate faces previous murder charges. Vicky White, 56, was first charged with permitting or facilitating escape in the first degree and was later facing additional forgery and identity theft charges.

"He will be in a cell by himself," Singleton said. "He will stay in handcuffs and shackles while he's in that cell and if he wants to sue me for violating his civil rights, so be it. He's not getting out of this jail again. I'll assure you that."
