6 Dead in Oaklahoma Crash
Six high school aged girls were reportedly killed in a highway crash involving a semi truck in Oklahoma on Tuesday. The crash occurred at the intersection of US Highways 22 and 377 at 12.30pm local time in Tishomingo, which is about 120 miles southeast of Oklahoma City. The six girls were in a small passenger vehicle and died, according to the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety. Information on the girls’ ages and the condition of the truck driver were not immediately released.  · |

Reportedly 6 girls in a 4 seat Chevy Spark. Apparently they were doing a U-Turn in front of the semi, which was fully loaded with stone. He couldn't stop when they pulled out in front of him. They were all going to lunch (or coming back to school) at the time. There are already flowers at the site. A pretty heavy loss for a small high school. I'm sure the parents are devastated. Reports today that witnesses said the girls did a "rolling stop" and then went through the stop sign. Someone mentioned that they thought the girls had looked and cleared one way, saw the truck and assumed it was turning off, then looked the other way, and pulled out, just in time for the truck to hit it. The truck driver is reputed to be a good guy, volunteer fire fighter in his hometown, etc. I'm sure he will carry this with him for the rest of his life. |

fuck I hope no charges are made against the semi-truck driver. it sounds like there was literally nothing he could do to avoid what happened.

I hope not, too. If you look at the aerial views, he had all his brakes on when he hit the car. It's nothing but skid marks from the point of impact, so he wasn't off in dreamland. Luckily, he missed the telephone pole by about a foot, too, or he might be dead as well.

Very doubtful he will face any charges, no evidence at all that he was doing anything wrong unless they find out he was speeding excessively. Other than that, he seems clear on the traffic laws, they pulled out in front of him.

Not wearing seatbelts in the back apparently  the mass of the bodies often injures and kills people in the front in a head on. |
