Re: Venezuelan Government Calms the Population, and Says There's Food Till April
How is that? Please, enlighten us. I guess cutting poverty levels in half, instead of letting foreign national oil companies run away with the oil is socialist nonsense? No doubt Venezuela has serious corruption issues, violence issues as does all of South America. But the fact is they spend half of their GDP on public spending, to the benefit of ALL their people, not just the top 2%. |

You'll find the same inequality there as you will anywhere else, favelas with mountains of trash perch on the hillsides all over Caracas, people cooking their dinner in the gutter from garbage. Then go down the road to Altamira and you'll see the filthy rich all blinged up. Things like public transport are cheap as fuck, US$0.02 to travel across Caracas on the subway; Petrol US$0.05/ litre. But you would find a better healthcare system in McDonalds, I'd hate to see the state of an emergency ward there.

They are essentially the ultimate banana republic. If they weren't so thick and lazy they could develop a decent agricultural industry.

Where would they be without half of the GDP put back into the people? What we get is foreign owned oil companies that come in, walk away with half of whatever they recover, on top of massive tax breaks. |
