A man who had sex with a goat has been banned from every farm in the country in a bid to protect the animals.

Robert Newman initially denied having intercourse with the goat at a farm in Wiltshire in April.

But the 23-year-old changed his plea to guilty at North West Wiltshire Magistrates Court in Chippenham yesterday.

He had been due to stand trial for the offence but changed his plea to guilty and will be sentenced on September 12, after a pre-sentence report has been prepared.

Newman, of Devizes, Wilts, was ordered to keep away from farmyard animals and stay indoors between 7am and 7pm.


Last week an American man was charged with six counts of crimes against nature and one count of cruelty to an animal after repeatedly having sex with a cat.



Ryan Havens Tannenholz, 28, of Idaho, enjoyed dressing up as a dog called called Bubblegum Husky before sexually abusing the cat.

And a year ago a dad-of-three from Gloucestershire walked free from court after being convicted of having sex with his ex-wife’s dog.

Nicholas Saunders, 46, was caught having intercourse with a four-year-old bull mastiff called Sasha in former wife Kelly Thacker’s bed.

A man was jailed today after he admitted having sex with a goat in a barn that led to the animal needing veterinary treatment.

Robert Newman, 23, had initially denied the attack but changed his plea and was jailed for six weeks. He must also register as a sex offender.

In a court statement, the goat’s female owner said: “My husband is worried about me being on the farm on my own.

"This person has cost us a considerable amount of money because we have had to install security cameras.

"We have also had to pay for vets fees and antibiotics for the goat’s injuries.”

Newman, who had already been banned from every farm in the country in a bid to protect livestock, was described as suffering from “isolation rather than depravity”.

A statement from him said: "I don't want to be this bad person anymore, I just want to get on with my life and do good.

"I want to stand before you and say I am sorry and I just want to be back with my family."

Defence lawyer Anne Ellery said: "This is a young man suffering from isolation. Treatment is something he’ll need to seek.

"He’s accepted his delay in admitting the behaviour is because of embarrassment and shame.”

North West Wiltshire magistrates court heard Newman, of Devizes, was under an eight-week suspended sentence for burglary when the attack happened in the town in April.

His jail term will run at the same time as his burglary sentence. Chairwoman Gail Chilcott told him: “We accept this is an isolated incident.”

Ryan Tannenholz is charged with crimes against nature and cruelty to an animal. An Idaho man was arrested Thursday after police say he sexually penetrated a cat on more than one occasion.

Ryan Havens Tannenholz, 28 -- a self-described, "furry," who dresses up as a dog he calls Bubblegum Husky -- is charged with six counts of crimes against nature, and one count of cruelty to an animal, the Idaho Statesman reported.

Police say the Boise man abused the cat multiple times between January. 2012, and January, 2013. It's unclear how they learned about the Tannenholz' alleged actions, but an arrest warrant was issued for him in late July.

“It just means that at this point was the time when they had probable cause to do the arrest,” Deputy Prosecutor Cathy Guzman told the Statesman.

Online Furry News Magazine Flayrah, reports that Tannenholz was a member of the furry fandom community. According to the website, Tannenholz was a, "fursuiter," who portrayed himself as a, "sparkly," husky, a blue fox named Kismet fox, and another purple canine.

While some commenters on the Flayrah article argue that publicizing rare cases like Tannenholz' gives furries a bad rap, others that it's better for the furry community to acknowledge these kinds of incidents.
