Two Dead in Paris Knife Attack
Two dead in Paris knife attack. One person has been killed and five wounded in a knife attack in Paris, French police say. They say the attacker - who has not been identified - was shot dead by police. Two of the injured are in a serious condition. The incident happened in the Opéra district of central Paris. Witnesses spoke of panic, as people tried to hide in restaurants and cafes. The motive for the attack late on Saturday was not immediately known. The witnesses say police officers first tried to taser the attacker - but then fired two shots after this failed to stop the assailant, France24 reports. French Interior Minister Gérard Colomb praised police for their "cool response". He said his first thoughts were "with the victims of this heinous act". The Opera district is renowned for its vibrant nightlife French police warned the public not to spread rumours. "Please only share information coming from a trusted source," the police tweeted. Paris police said the attacker was armed with a knife and targeted five people in the second district, a retail and dining precinct that is also home to the capital's opera. A 29-year-old man was killed and two were seriously injured. The other two suffered less serious injuries. Paris attack: arrests in Strasbourg French police have arrested two people in the eastern city of Strasbourg in connection with Saturday's fatal stabbing in the centre of Paris. Officers are now questioning the parents and friends of the 21-year-old who had been flagged previously as a potential security risk. What happened? The attack happened in the bustling Opera district, known for its many restaurants, cafes and the Palais Garnier opera. The attacker shouted "Allahu akbar" (God is greatest) as he began his stabbing rampage. He fatally stabbed a 29-year-old man and wounded four others before he was shot dead by police. Who was he?
